Chromosphere through a Coronado PST

Pictures below were taken with a Coronado Personal Solar Telescope. This instrument incoporates a Halpha filter whose bandwith is lower than 1 Angström, which make possible to observe chromospheric details on the whole solar disc.

Pictures in afocal mode with a digital camera

These two pictures were captured on 09/17/2005 (upper picture) and 07/03/2005 (lower picture) with an EPSON PC3000Z digital camera placed behind a Plössl 25mm eyepiece and a 2x Barlow lens.
Through the Halpha band, sun spots look much smaller. Dark filaments are prominences seen from above.

This flare was captured in the morning on 08/28/2005 with a B/W modified PHILIPS VESTA PRO camera place behind a 2x Barlow lens (F=800mm F/D=20). Through the Halpha band, flares look like very bright spots.

Flare on 08/28/2005

A movie of this flare (DIVX compression 2648K)

This 4 seconds movie shows about 15 minutes of evolution of this flare. It shows a prominence emerging from the active area. The video quality was altered by clouds passing in front of the sun.

This arch shaped prominence was captured in the morning on 09/08/2005 with a B/W modified PHILIPS VESTA PRO camera  placed behind a couple of 2x Barlow lenses  (F=1600mm F/D=40).
